Reviews
Plane on time and stall welcoming and professional. Economy seat had plenty leg room and seat not so comfy and sore bum on 12 hour flight.. Food was ok nothing special. Worst was the entertainment. Music selection was poor as was the limited choice of movies. Not sure if something wrong with the heating but everyone had to wrap up in jackets and coats...it was that cold. Being a regular flier with BA , Qatar amongst others I was a bit disappointed. The plus was the service very quick and polite.
Recline was perfect. There is enough room for the attendants to move about without disturbing you and there's a reasonable distance to the lavatories. You can rest easy.
These seats are really getting old. Mine had a broken headphone jack, and 2C and 2D had occasional reclining problems. At the end of the day it is still a flat bed, but the lack of entertainment is really bad. The crew was fine and food good.
Not so bothering. Comfortable with close distance wtih cabin attendants.
A larger plane then our trip back but older then that plane , seats are very tall so when person in front reclines you have to aswell or you right up against the seat back , plane was half empty so plenty empty seats around to lounge around in in fact staff came to advise people of this . Food was very nice beef and sauté potatoes , IFE worked ok then went of half way there not to come back on but as an overnight flight mangled to get some sleep staff very good and plenty water available , we arrived on time but as is common in joburg my case did not make it to our connecting flight , but arrived later that day , intact and secure much preferred the 300-200 we came home on as this plane was a bit tired in some places
LHR to JNB, 11+ hours, this seat was so hard I was numb after the first hour. Cabin crew pretty glum most of the time, and the breakfast offered (omelette and chicken sausage) was horrible - I couldn't eat it. Also very sparing with drinks. Not my best flight!
Flew from Cape Town to Johannesburg then onwards to Harare. The A340-300 is surprisingly spacious and comfortable considering that i am 1.8m tall. The interior is showing signs of age though. I had a great flight!
While I found the seat comfortable and the service great, once the person next to me reclined it was difficult to get out of seat.Would recommend you take aisle seat
This aisle seat in the center section of the 2x4x2 economy class turned out to be quite uncomfortable. Since the flight was originating at 1900 local time and actually left ~45minutes late, it was 1945 local time in Brazil but 2345 in South Africa - so the person in front of me decided to sleep immediately and I was so cramped, I was not able to see my tray and thus unable to eat - it did not help that the crew member said it was my problem and that they would not wake up a passenger that is inconveniencing another one. It made for a horrible flight experience
Well it looked really impressive when I walked on. Business class is 2x2x2 configuration. I was looking forward to having a seat after I discovered that SAA have some of the widest seats - expecting pure comfort! It was wide, the belt was long and easy to tighten. The electronic control to put the chair into bed or cradle position also had a massage function! Each seat had its own tv screen and there was plenty of space between each chair for the bed to lie flat. I hate the fact that you have someone so close to you. If they are a stranger you get to know them pretty well by the end of the flight. Especially if you're one of those unfortunates to have an aisle seat next to a window seat.... Be prepared to have someone lunging over you whilst sleeping for a midnight pee! The plug socket on my seat didn't work so I had to use someone else's. I thought this was just a fluke but it also happened on my short flight from jo'burg to Cape Town also. The massage function didn't work which would have helped trying to get my body moving after a horrendous sleep. The chairs are so uncomfortable that I felt I'd been the recipient of a good "kickin" when I awoke. The "duvet" was really narrow so bits of me were hanging in the cold aircon cabin. However at times it was unbearably hot! The inflight entertainment was poor. I had already seen most of the "new releases". All the cabin crew were polite and helpful, and all but one of them seemed genuinely happy to be there. The food was good and they had an excellent selection of drinks. I am dreading my 11 hour flight back to the UK. I doubt that they'll get some decent seats before I leave
This row is right by the lavotories, which wasn't particularly terrible. However, the flight attendants (and other passengers) managed to knock my elbow quite a few times. Also the seat would not recline all the way back, so this seat was not particularly enjoyable.
