The configuration of this plane for a long haul flight is challenging as there is nowhere to walk for a much needed stretch. The only open space to gather - or stretch is outside the toilet - and this is quite limited and disruptive for those seated close by. Once this trip is finished we will never fly more than 8 hours on one of these planes again. Big mistake.
Very basic. Barely enough room for me and a carry on bag. I’m 5 foot 3 and 134 pounds so not too big. The seat didn’t incline much so for such a long flight it could hardly be called comfortable. The reason I chose this airline was because it offered the most direct route and shortest travel time. There is nothing else to recommend it.
41A, and I would image 41K, are at the tapering section of the body so they aren't inline with the seats in row 40. They are moved slightly inward by a few inches. Not too big of a deal but this means the tray table and entertainment screen is also not inline with these seats by a few inches. On the plus side, however, there is a larger than normal gap between the wall and the seat where you can place a small carryon right next to you instead of the under the seat in front of you. But don't plan on leaning over towards the wall to sleep, it's too far to lean on.
Noticed immediately that the space under the seat in front of me was smaller than a Boeing 737 (planes that I predominantly fly on). My ThinkTank Shapeshifter backpack holding a laptop and camera gear would not fit underneath, as it would on a 737. On further inspection, noticed there was a metal bar or tube under the seat taking up space; probably power supply for outlets, etc.
Seats 31A/B/C are probably the best seats on AC's 77L. Bulkhead + emergency exit means that you get to stretch your legs as far as you can. People can gather around the seat while waiting for the bathroom, but its not that bothersome compared to what the poor people sitting in 30D/E/F/G have to stand, with people stepping over their feet every 5 minutes trying to get to the bathroom.
Seats 40A and 40K have lots of extra leg room as this row is at an angle compared to row 39. The only downside is the odd padding added to the armrests making them less comfortable - but 40A and 40K are among the best seats on this 777 sardine can.
The worst seat I have ever experienced. People were constantly crossing back and forth in front of us, constantly stepping and tripping on our feet. That's not extra legroom space, if you stretch your legs only to get stepped on - countless times!!! Also people were gathering around the toilet areas, loudly chattering, and when the lines got long, kept brushing against us and crowding over us. During this long 13 hour flight we didn't get any sleep, because the moment we shut our eyes, someone would stomp on our foot and startle us out of any attempt to rest. Not only I would never pay for such seat, I wouldn't sit in it if someone paid me. Extremely disappointed and shocked that such seats are considered "preferred". You'll have a wonderful time sitting in a regular seat compared to this, which is what we did on the returning flight.
Uncomfortable seats due to lack of leg space, narrow seat. Can be claustrophobic if not sitting in the aisle. Also, if you're taking more than 1 cabin bag on a flight to India, try to get on the plane first. Overhead bins fill up quick. Service was really good though. No complaints there.
Premium economy domestic is like economy in the 1970s and early 1980s. Seat pretty comfortable, not huge but roomy, service OK. The drinks cart is the economy cart, the food not as good or as much as biz, the IFO the same as everyone else. The pluses are really priority security, priority boarding, priority luggage, and a small cabin which, even full, isn't as noisy or oppressive as eco.
This is the most uncomfortable long haul airplane in the sky. Misery is all I have to say. Eco passengers got seen-off in this configuration. ULCC seating on a main-line aircraft. Epic Fail.
The seats are narrower than ever before because they've crammed 10 seat in rows where they used to have 9. I'm short and average build and felt claustrophic and crammed into the seats. Guy next to me who was tall and skinny was very uncomfortable. Kept touching knees and elbows while sitting and eating. Hard a sleep on a long, horrible flight betweenVancouver and Sydney. My husband and I flown Syd / Vrc about 20 times. This was worst airplane configuration. Will go back to flying Qantas to LA or SF next time, as Airbus 380 is so much better. Pain in the ass to put up with American Customs and then transfer terminals, etc to get to Canada, but better flight worth it. Air Canada, lift your game.
42J is a pretty good seat (it is where the seat map says 42H, 42H does not exist, it is called 42J). There is a bit of space to the left: It is often possible to stretch your feet out a bit towards the left. It is also close to bathrooms and a bit of space to walk in the back of the plane, but the vicinity is not annoying. I noticed though that you can sometimes be lucky when you book the last row (44) since it is sometimes empty. My flight was almost completely full, but the last row was empty.
Admittedly a long flight (15 hours) from Hong Kong to Toronto, I've never been more uncomfortable or miserable in my life. I'm an average size woman on an aisle seat, touched shoulders the entire flight with my neighbor, the seat structure did not let me put my head or back in a comfortable position, legroom nonexistent, food was inedible. A single flight attendant scrounged up food for me from probably leftovers up front while the others simply did not care. Horrible, horrible flight.
I did not find there was any noise from the galley in this seat. It's my favourite business class seat on this plane.
I don't understand why 18H (or 18C) are preferred seats. One can stretch out the legs. However, due to the bulkhead and the the aisle the legs stretch into the aisle and one has to be careful not to be hit by trolleys and people walking past
If your bigger then a small woman or child avoid this plane.
This seat does have a little bit more legroom than the other premium economy seats. However, as other commenters in economy noted, the window seat is a little too far from the window to try to sleep against it. Being at the bulkhead means: no storage at foot, and this particular row (unlike the economy bulkhead) has hard plastic magazine holders so you can't even store a water bottle or a book! The right-hand-side of the plane also has fewer washrooms and the plane design prevents you from crossing to the other aisle anywhere other than the very back of the plane - especially if flight crew is serving anything, prepare to wait an eternity for the washroom. This seat should also have the standard "immovable armrest / tray table and entertainment system in the armrest" comment on it. For a longer flight, I suggest going back a row or two into the other premium economy seats, and choosing the left-hand side of the plane.
Not as good as the old seats. not a true flat sleep position. Feels very cramped, Even the cru dos not like them as it is hard to serve.
Terrible configuration, a premium economy seat that cost more than CAD$2,200 round trip between YOW/HKG is not not worth it. There are only 2 washroom on the right side of the plane (for a 15 hours trip) means it is impossible to get there. Drinks are economy drinks and the second meal was the same as economy. Seat has a hard time to recline and the video system malfunction without any fix for the whole trip. Crew's attitude was that they are only employee, if you want to complain, send a letter to head office. They also explicitly told passengers that there are not enough room, even for themselves.
I had an excellent experience during my long flight YVR/SYD in 42J. Lots of room, very quiet, no one bumping me from the aisle, in fact I slept most of the way! I really wanted the window seat next to me because I like to lean against the wall while I sleep, but there is a huge gap between the seat and the window, so that wouldn't have been possible. Next time I'm on this aircraft, I'll try to book 42J.
