Operated by Lufthansa . Excellent service, food and staff superior to Air France (and I am french) whose staff seems very blasé - the plane must have been fairly new - very clean with restrooms away on lower level - economy seat adequate with adjustable head rests a plus- very happy with attentive and friendly staff.
If I wasn’t paying for my young adults I would have paid extra for the premium seats , still better than the virgin flight from Vegas legroom with the metal box limited and when the seat in front reclining unable to get angle to watch monitor screen clearly
A very enjoyable flight from the efficient boarding process to arrival the food was rather nice with a few choices to pick from, cabin staff were very amiable especially Rory who went out of his way to make sure the passengers were happy,Virgin has had it's knocks but this flight was worth taking.
The A330-300 is an old aircraft and is certainly showing its age with the poor economy seating layout and condition. Virgin Atlantic customers deserver better but these seats had terrible legroom and seat padding that is long overdue for replacement. I flew on 5 flights on this trip, 4 Delta aircraft and even the 2 x 1hr Delta flights had larger and more comfortable seats. Virgin passengers were encouraged to pay £50 to sit in the 'extra comfort' seats and quite a few did including myself although after 7 hours they were also pretty terrible. Plus there was no option for economy travellers to move without paying the surcharge. The cabin crew were very insistant about that. At the back of the aircraft the engine noise on acceleration and climbing was really loud, overcoming the headphones and dated entertainment screens, the choice of movies was OK but having the headphone socket on side of the armrest just leads to damage to the headphone jack. Food was only OK, late hot cooked dinner at 10pm but no salad and a 'breakfast' of a yogurt and biscuit. Disappointed with Virgin, Delta rocked!
a seat near the centre of the plane behind the middle toilets as it is a seat next to the emergency exit there are restrictions who can sit there but the extra legroom is most welcome
HORRIBLE FLIGHT. Uncomfortable narrow seats. The food was disgusting. What a poor breakfast. I will not fly Virgin again if I can help it. Useless entertainment. We flew Delta from LHR to JFK on the 17th October, and by far a better airline.
(Airbus A340-600) I chose the extra legroom seat (51H) and it was super! No wall or seat in front of me. The food was mediocre, nothing special. I took the same flight back home and one thing that disappointed me (In Virgin you can choose between 3 maincourses) was that the most delicious food was always finished, I never got to taste want I really wanted (So hurry up with ordering your food). The entertainment was also good but not as good as Lufthansa or Turkish airlinesI will travel with Virgin Atlantic again but I prefer Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines :)
These are Economy Delight seats and i’m glad we paid for the extra legroon as it was a godsend for me being able to stretch my legs out and not having my knees squashed up against the seat in front. The biggest letdowns, were the virgin entertainment system, constantly flickering on and off and the choice of meals, not good at all. Virgin do seem to have taken a step backwards over the years, which is a huge shame as we loved travelling with them previously.
Old plane but it got us there. Film choice was limited.
First time flying Virgin Atlantic, I’ll never fly with this airline again. The entertainment system was ancient and not user friendly, the food was horrible and the seats were very small
A plane to avoid ready for the scrap yard. Huge box under your legroom seat having paid extra for it. No entertainment as system did not work. The food was pre war standard. Was given an I Pad to use. Staff were good. Seat lacked any comfort
This is an older plane. Leather Seat is padded nicely and has a decent recline. However, no standard power port; an adapter has to be requested from the flight attendant. the seat pocket was too rigid and very hard to fit a laptop in it as well as a water bottle. the media box under the seat in front prevents from stowing a backpack or smaller carry-on bag. The video screen was horrible... controlled by a connected remote and resolution was bad. Very hard to see movies on it despite changing angle and brightness level. On the positive side: Service and food were excellent!
I'm 6'3" and I fly transatlantic approx three times a year, but I can't afford to pay for the extra legroom. Having read some other reviews, I wasn't looking forward to this trip with Virgin. Luckily the flight wasn't that full. In my row of four, there was just me and one other passenger, each with an aisle seat, so we used the middle seats as extra storage. Otherwise it would have been VERY tight. Yes, there's a metal box under the seat in front but it's quite narrow and didn't bother me that much. Leg room was standard i.e. JUST ABOUT enough to squeeze in. My main gripe is the quality of the padding on the seats. It's so thin! Following this flight I was on a little regional Bombardier jet to Portland and although it felt a little claustrophobic the seat padding was MUCH better. Virgin should up their game here. Sitting on this seat for 10 hours is no joke! My ass was numb for hours. The food was pretty good, the service was prompt and friendly. No complaints there. The entertainment was...atrocious. I was reminded of browsing the back corner of a Blockbuster video store from 20 years ago, because there was almost nothing I had heard of. Also, even with the volume turned up to the max, I could barely hear it over the engines. The headphones are good though, far more comfortable than the earbuds you get elsewhere. Realistically, if Virgin come up cheapest next time I book this route, I'll probably fly with then again. But if competitors are within £100 or so, I'll try someone else. Overall, not as good as my previous flight with United.
Ten year old aircraft with entertainment system that was showing its age and wear and tear. I couldn't be bothered with it after about 20 minutes. Standard poor economy seat width and comfort. It was easily wide enough for me to get in but for eleven hours would be nice to have some wiggle room. Comfort is not dissimilar to flying in a 757 to Lanzarote. I can stick that for 4 hours but would expect a bit more for nearly three times as long. The seat actually wasn't in a bad position given its proximity to the loo. The toliet is right behind the seat but the door is on the other side and its proximity to the galley tended to restrct the number of people going past. The sound of the flush is no greater than for anyone within about 5 rows of a toilet and didn't stop me from dozing off. Normal recline on the seat and I was able to stretch my legs out under the seat in front. Crew were friendly and service was good. The breakfast croissant was 'interesting' and gave the impression of having been stood on prior to being microwaved. 2-4-2 configuration is adequate.
great seats bulk head in front easy access
We prefer to sit at the rear of the plane. These seats were OK. I had read reviews saying there was a video box in front of the seat, taking up valuable leg room, this was not the case. My only real criticism was the large gap between the seat and the 'wall, meaning I couldn't lean against the wall...I am fairly short so maybe someone taller would be Able to! The video screen was not the clearest I have experienced.
Nice flight - seating is very comfortable with 38in legroom and 20in width. Inflight entertainment is excellent with huge choice of movies on demand. Food was also excellent - same as economy but served on full size tray with china, glass, metal cutlery and linen. Boarding drink of champagne or orange juice, hot towels, amenity kit, Drinks service. hot lunch with more drinks and then coffee followed by brandy or baileys. All very nice. Long sleep then another hot meal before arrival, followed by Easter egg for Easter Monday flight. Slightly disappointed with the choice of wines since they make a big thing about how they chose them.... basically red or white which could have been anything, hyped up with fancy names. Bad seats - avoid 23 DFG which are between the toilets - yuk! I would be most annoyed to be allocated seats like this when paying premium economy fares! On arrival at Heathrow t3 my bag was on the carousel when I got there - that's a first!
I read a lot of comments about the bad service received from Virgin Atlantic. I have to admit that the food is very poor. Bring your own snacks but service was good, flight attendants were smiling and were very nice to my daughter. Seat 44H & 44K are nice, nobody sit behind you. I will fly them again.
Premium economy class (Bussiness class) seats offer amenities that are sometimes missing in normal economy class. These "economy class" offers better service onboard.
Stay away from the D or G seats as they are in the middle. Virgin's fishbone seating structure clearly encourages "window" seating.
