I came from Japan and had a transit connection in Singapore, this was my first flight with Silk Air. As much as I looking forward to it, I have a less expectation on it, and it turned out okay. If I could choose my connecting flight, I would rather stay with SQ to Bali. The plane was rather old and dull, and the seat wasn't look inviting. There was no inflight entertainment and luckily just around 3 hours flight, they provided the newspaper and wifi connection just doesn't work. The breakfast was a delight and I wouldn't speak higher for the experience.
I flew with Silkair on 14th March just as travel was starting to change due to Covid19. The flight was half empty so I had 3 seats to myself so plenty of room to spread out. I was on an early flight so slept most of it but I did have breakfast which despite a very anemic looking sausage was very tasty. Silkair is definitely Singapore airlines poorer cousin but despite this it was a very pleasant flight from Singapore to Bali and the planes have a quaintness to them. The staff where helpful and the flight passed quickly.
This was the return leg of my short dive trip to Manado in Jan 2020. Another totally packed flight on Silk AIr. I checked in early so didn't have to wait too long, but I noticed quite a long queue beginning to form after I arrived - not the most efficient check-in process. Another mediocre meal on board - a very big difference to Singapore Airlines, that's for sure. Arrived about 15 mins late into Singapore due to thunderstorms around the time of arrival.
This flight was in late Jan from SIngapore to Manado on a totally packed B737-800. I had a window seat about a third into the plane. Departed on time and arrived 30 mins early! Usual poor quality food on board (SIlk Air certainly isn't the same as SQ). Already full individual temperature screening on arrival in Manado even in late Jan.
The only reason for taking SIlk Air instead of SQ is because the timing suits. Otherwise you should expect everything else to be worse. Operated on a B737 instead of an A330. No in-seat entertainment system. Poor quality food. This particular flight in Dec 2019 had a mediocre meal of chicken pasts served. Quite an uncomfortable flight as the person sitting behind me had his knees in the back of my seat the entire flight. Arrived only slightly late.
I took the night flight to Chongqing. The flight departed on time. There was inflight entertainment but you need a mobile device or tablet to access it. The night flight food had a bit of local taste. They serve You Tiao as desert instead of the usual ice cream or cut fruits. The main course was fried noodles or rice with meat. The taste was B- at best. Nevertheless the fact there was no flight delay and flight entertainment to kill time makes it a good option to choose when on holiday. But you need to wait for the promotion to get a good rate. Otherwise it may not be value for money.
Silkair is a reliable airline. Our flight departed on time. The food was better than comparable Shenzhen Airlines but wasn't that tasty. In terms of inflight entertainment, it can only be accessed through mobile devices. The choices were limited but it included the latest movies, so I guess that it was enough the last the whole 4 to 5 hours journey. Service was probably average and not taking an extra mile. Overall it is an airline that does its core business well. It is a reliable and efficient airline. Nothing more, nothing less. They also have few competitors as they flew mainly to smaller cities.
I travelled from Chennai to Singapore in the Silk Air and the journey was comfortable. The leg room was fine. The food and the hospitality were good too.
Hiroshima to Kuala Lumpur via Singapore. This is a review of a flight that was cancelled due to COVID-19. At first they changed the departure airport to FUK. This was unacceptable since it is a long was from HIJ. So I asked them for a full refund for all flights. Despite what must have been an incredibly busy and stressful time for them and their staff, they responded promptly and courteously to all communications, including calling me in Japan from Singapore. The refunds were duly processed with no debate as to whether the change from HIJ to FUK was reasonable or not. Well done to them for their excellent service under trying circumstances for everyone. Put the service of some other airlines to shame. And, guess what, when this is all over and we can start flying again, this is an airline I will definitely think highly of - even though I never got on their plane.
Singapore to Yangon. On-time departure from Changi terminal 2. The economy cabin felt clean and the crew were friendly. My expectation was for a basic and efficient service which was we got. This was an evening flight so we had a basic dinner which was okay, as good if not better than the Premium Economy meal from Melbourne to Singapore. Same wine Sauvignon Blanc. This time no other option so I opted for the red. Comfortable, good service, no complaints.
Flew on Silk Air from Penang to Singapore on March 14 early afternoon flight and as soon as we boarded flight the senior flight attendant offered to hang my coat-nice gesture! The grooming and presentation of the flight attendants was first class and all of them so pleasant and helpful. The flight was not busy and as we were walking toward back of plane the flight attendant asked if we would like to sit by exit door as it’s more space and we were thankful and she did same for other passengers opposite us. The plane was so clean aswell. These are the small things that set Silk Air apart from the others. I was just thinking if many other airline crews all over the world were to see these crew they would be blow away! My hats off to you and hope you recover quickly from Caronavirus. Look forward to next trip hopefully next year to Penang on Silk Air -Keep Safe!
Went to Bandung for the 3rd time in 3 years, all 3 on SilkAir (MI) flight. The aircraft operated was Boeing 737. I chose Muslim meal for my special meal option. Was served same old Bee Hoon Goreng again, was given the same item when I took them back in 2015 & 2018. The catering dept must come with better meals in the Muslim meal option for MI operated flights. Was bored as MI flights doesn't come with IFE although if wanna watch, gotta download their app on your device. Till now, MI parent company SQ have not announced what seats and IFE systems will be installed in all MI narrow body aircrafts, tho new business class seat have been selected. MI crew was very helpful and attentive to all passengers needs.
I am traveling with family and friends to DaNang holiday , total 19 of us as we check in online separately so most seats are apart . Majority between row 8 to 12 accept 4 of us row 30 and it was last row next to toilet. I was complaint to my husband that last row seat will be very uncomfortable just nice a male crew overheard it he came to us offer his help saying that this flight was not full he will change for us to the front . That really brighten my day with his kindness and let me feel that we will have a very pleasant holiday throughout the 6 days trip. True enough we have our 6 days trip smooth and enjoyable.
Using Silkair for internal flights within SE Asia. Some flights have been cancelled for obvious reasons relating to Covid-19, but they have kept us fully informed via our agents. All flights have departed within a couple of minutes of the advertised time, which means we have arrived early at the destination airports, Staff very friendly and food provided on all flights.
Having just transferred from the London to Changi flight on a A380 I found the six hour service from Singapore to Cairns uncomfortable and too long for a aircraft with no entertainment available. I dreaded the return trip.
My wife and I flew from Singapore to Kathmandu in an old 737. The aircraft was crowded with young trekkers who had grabbed every inch of the overhead lockers as none had checked anything in. The cabin crew allowed this and so we,already in seats with very little leg room or seat width, had to cram our carry on bags by our feet and legs. The plane was dirty with worn and stained upholstery. BY far the worst aircraft experience ever and we have traveled extensively over our lifetimes of 75+ years. We would not recommend the use of this airline - any alternative has to be better.
Top service for a short flight. Friendly crew and quick boarding and unboarding. Only the food was not my taste.
Paid for the price under SQ but got on board on SilkAir, without inflight entertainment. Seat were small.
A short, smooth flight and comfortable seat. Good service in check-in, accommodate seat request and smiling crew on board. Indeed, a great way to fly!
No lounge in Kolkata Airport. Standard seats on late night flight to Singapore. Nice flight attendants. Clean aircraft. Smooth Check-In.
