Porter airlines is extremely convenient when it works. However, the airline is prone to contant delays, flight cancelations, and is generally unempathetic, and down right TERRIBLE when flights are delayed or canceled. The service staff don't communicate causes of delays or remedies clearly, and have on occasion lied to get customers to back off. My family flies between NYC and Toronto quite frequently, and on one occasion, was assured by Porter staff (in Newark) that a hotel with a distress rate had been arranged for my family (due to a late night delay). However, upon arrival at said airport hotel, there was no record of a hotel room arranged, and Porter staff claimed that there no such promise was made on their end. This used to be an excellent airline, and a convenient way to travel out out of YTC, however the airline has declined in quality and service to the point where travel with Porter is now down right unpleasant. Bottom line, pick another airline if you expect reasonable customer service.
All seems fine (actual glasses for drinks, decent snacks, average legroom) if you aren't delayed. If anything bad happens, and I mean anything, you are completely on your own. The airline will immediately bunker down and keep saying you are not their problem. You'll get your rights read to you, almost like a human automated response, and the employees will be replaced with managers who seem like the most despicable people on the planet. Don't believe the bots here with 5/5 star reviews. If you can get through, its an average/above average low cost airline. If you get stuck for whatever reason, good luck finding a hotel in Toronto's Billy Bishop because the airport will shut down around you.
This was the worst airline I have ever experienced, and I travel alot for work. My flight was constantly delayed due to plane issues (ended up spending 10+ hours in the airport waiting), no apology was given, the representatives were extremely rude, and only gave vouchers to select people. My luggage was handled poorly and caused my bag to break. Please stay away from this company as they do not care about their customers.
Since Porter suspended operations till sometime in June, my ticket was turned into a credit. I still need to get to Toronto, so I had to purchase a new ticket on Air Canada. If Air Canada can fly why can't Porter? Now Porter has my "cash", and I'm unable to get a refund. If Porter is running out of cash, how will they resume service in June? They need to buy fuel, pay pilots, crew, and staff to man their gates. I fear the worse. I think Porter will go bankrupt, and this will result in my credit being worthless. It goes to show that flying with small airlines presents risks to travelers. Small airlines don't have the extent of financial options that large airlines have. Suspending operations entirely is a "scapegoat" for the company to plan a total shutdown in a way that is optimal to them. I believed that Porter always did what was best for their customer. I don't have faith in them any longer. I will not be flying Porter again.
Toronto to Montreal. Continue to be impressed with the service at Porter! My friends and I were travelling (returning home) on the brink of the COVID-19 crisis and the entire crew remained upbeat, pleasant and incredibly professional during our pre-boarding and flight. Thank you to the Porter Airline organization for getting us home safely and with ease.
My wife and I flew Porter to meet family in Boston. For value, customer service and comfort this airline is 10/10!!!
Porter was very helpful and polite, booked by travel agent and unfortunately they did it as 2 flight reservations so luggage had to be picked up in TO and through luggage and security again. But a smooth transition. No issues
A great travel experience. It was nice having an airport downtown. The gate configuration was a little confusing, with boarding pass/ID checking right before boarding the plane. The inflight experience was pleasant, and I discovered a new favorite potato chip (Hardbite salt and vinegar).
It was a direct flight into Billy Bishop island airport. Easy check in to depart and got through customs quickly in Toronto
I often fly from Moncton to Toronto and I love Porter. The Moncton Airport is small so there is never much of a line, but in Toronto, Porter on the Island Airport makes travel out of Toronto so easy and civilized. Short lines and a lovely, recently expanded lounge. Lots of seats, places to plug in and a nice bar/restaurant.
Great service and on time. Flight attendants were excellent and helpful to us - especially with someone in our party having a severe peanut allergy.
I took a flight with Porter airlines during my travel to Toronto. The airline operates Billy Bishop airport, which is at the step of downtown Toronto. The airport also runs a frequent complimentary shuttle between downtown and the ferry terminal, where you can take a short walk or ferry to the terminal. The airport is small but well equipped (check-in and boarding was smooth). The turbo-prop plane the airline operates has only aisle and window seats (no middle seat), which is a plus. I would consider taking this airline during my future travel to Canada. BTW, the airline also provides a good selection of snacks during my flight.
I must commend Porter Airlines for their superior service during a recent trip. I was flying out of Ottawa on 2 March with my 88 year old father, my wife and my sister to attend a family funeral in Fredericton. The Check-in staff were incredible and so patient as they prepared our boarding passes and arranged for a wheelchair to assist our transit through the airport. Upon our arrival to the Departure Gate, the staff approached our group to advise us that they moved our seats to Row 3 to make it easier for my dad. Following the pre-boarding announcement, we boarded the aircraft first and got comfortable in our seats. The flight attendant was very attentive to our needs throughout the flight. Unbeknownst to us, Porter Airlines offers a complementary snack and beverage as well. It was a treat to have wine in a glass. Another wheelchair was waiting for us on arrival. Our return flight on 6 March was equally rewarding. It was a little more difficult to get through the Fredericton airport because of construction but the staff were very helpful and the flight back to Ottawa went without a hitch. Thank you to all of the Porter staff that we encountered. Everyone made a stressful trip more manageable and it was one less thing to worry about.
They refuse to check your bag until exactly 2 hours before your flight, so if you have limited ability to get to the airport, good luck! The check-in employees are u helpful and lazy. One of the worst airport experiences I have ever had.
Porter's practice of deleting our reward points is disgusting. They say they will warn you, but we never received a call or email. It probably went directly to our spam/trash, which they would obviously know. This is just an awful way to treat customers who use their service - why on earth would they nickel and dime us this way? Their customer service is also terrible, even for an airline. They make it difficult to contact them and clearly don't care about our concerns. There is literally zero in flight entertainment, the food/drinks they offer are below basic, the planes are small and cramped, and flights are frequently delayed or even canceled.
A great and convenient way to fly to Boston from Toronto,. By flying ont of Billy Bishop aiport in downtown, it avoids the hustle of Toronto Pearson airport.
Flight to NYC was fine. We bought a weekend package deal that included the Hudson Hote. The Hudson Hotel is mediocre at best. No food service on premises. Period. Rooms are small and very poorly lit. Concierge was great!.
Right from the free shuttle service from parking lot to landing in Thunder it was a great experience. Smaller airport compared to that other Toronto airport which made navigating much simpler. We were assigned our seats at the airport and were pleasantly surprised to see that we were at one of the emergency exits. With my wife being 5 foot 9 and myself at 6 foot 2 we enjoyed the extra leg room. Only 2 hour flight but still had some free snacks and beverages. Baggage claim in Thunder Bay was quick and easy. Overall I would fly with Porter again!
Overall decent options if you live near Toronto downtown, and want faster trip instead of going thru customs in YYZ. Prices aren't always cheaper but sometimes they can be than other options available esp. during holidays/summer.
Yikes. Never again. Family members have been ripped off by Porter before but I thought I'd give them another chance. This business has a major customer service issue. I was charged $51 to take my SCHOOL backpack (a typical personal item on other airlines) on the plane. I had no other luggage. Another reviewer said if you book basic fare they treat you terribly. I can vouch for that. Don't fall for the appearance of a good deal, if they see an opportunity to rip you off they absolutely will. I understand basic fare includes only a personal item but it is completely unreasonable to force people to pay that much money for a bag that can fit under a seat. The customer service agent at Halifax Stanfield was condescending and unpleasant. This airline is falling WAY behind others in value and customer service. Avoid Porter!
