Great seat with decent legroom, and that's the main deal for me at 6' tall on a ten hour flight. Entertainment is not up to Emirates or Singapore standards, but the price of the seat reflects that. The flight to Paris on the Airbus is not as good as there is not as much space.
Flew two long-haul flights in prem eco and I'm very satisfied with the seats, well worth it. Service was good and attentive and I had some good sleep too.
Plenty of room. Spacious seat. Lie flat bed as not that comfortable. Seemed to need a pillow on the oart that folds down.
Good position and very comfortable seat with plenty of leg room and good width of seat. Flew on a night flight and with the seat reclines had a comfortable 6hrs plus of sleep undisturbed. Seat had availability of two windows. Downside that you have to take note of is that if you are traveling through the night and the seats in front are fully reclined you will have to climb across yours and the next 14C to get out to use the toilet or walk around. Can be a little bit of a nuisance if the person next to you is asleep, otherwise a good plane to fly in for a long haul journey.
Good Position & very comfortable - allowed for full size bed when expanded. The seat was in a position by itself so nobody had to step over you get get in & out. Had window location with plenty of storage for a small bag or rucksack. Within easy access to the toilets but not near enough as to have noise when used.
I sat in 7a, but I noticed the problems with 1k which a previous user has mentioned. The toilet is very close, and the lockers are in frequent use by the cabin staff.
7a is an excellent seat. The galley is a long way behind you, and very quiet. I didn't hear a thing. Also, you have exclusive control over three windows here. Because of the precise layout of the seats, you "steal" one off 6a which should be downgraded similarly to 5a. Food was excellent flying Europe -> Asia, but only "very good" the other way around. Staff are variable. Some are incredible, others less so. I flew 7a in both directions because I believe it's the best seat on the plane.
Seat 15 G was a premium economy seat; so far ok, but couldn't be locked so I spent the time I was awake half way down. Food was horrible, no way this was worth the price for premium economy. Staff was friendly but spoke very less english.
Reasonably good Premium Economy seat (large pitch) but a) the video screens are from the seat arms (not on the back of the seat of the previous row), which severely restricts the ability to move out of the widow seat to reach the aisle without having to fold back both screens (yours and that of your neighbor) back in the arms... disrupting entertainment ... b) there was no power (although there was a AC port, but no one could turn it on... (this happened also on my flight to Hanoi and is also reported by others, which means that it is not a temporary problem).
The B787 as configured for Economy Class 3, 3, 3 is tight at best. I am not a large person, however my elbows rubbed on the sides of the seat, quite uncomfortably. The Flight Entertainment system has a touch screen, great idea, however there is a secondary control on the top of the left arm rest. While watching some entertainment if you relax and put your arm on the rest you will accidently press a button resulting in interesting changes to your selected programme. This controller needs to be rethought.
Very simply, if you are anywhere near 6ft tall this is NOT the plane for a 12hr flight for you. I am 6'3 and have been on countless long haul flights before; none as unpleasant as this. There is no physical way, even with an aisle seat, to get even remotely comfortable for a long overnight flight. As previous reviews have mentioned, this plane squeezes 9 seats across, despite being designed for just 8. So, the seats are too narrow as well as having a short pitch. I would strongly advise paying for an airline that can take you this route for a little more money on a different plane, or paying the Optiontown ~£130 upgrade to Premium Economy.
I didn't have a choice of seat coming back from HCMC and was in 1K, which I think should be rated as a bad seat (worse than 'be aware'). There are storage cupboards immediately in front, which were in frequent use by cabin crew, and the toilet was more proximate than on the left of the plane, and in frequent use, meaning that the curtain to the galley was partially open for some of the overnight flight, casting ambient light. Worst of all was that the cabin crew chatted in the galley, making little or no effort to soften their voices. The level of service from cabin crew was uneven and was not at business class level. The dinner was poor but the breakfast was better. The flat bed was fine, if it wasn't for the disturbances. Vietnam is the only airline to fly direct HCMC to London, but I think that I will take an indirect flight next time.
Booked Business to fly Ho Chi Minh City to London to (hopefully) get some sleep and be prepared for more travel and family commitments when we arrived in UK. Was looking forward to first trip on a Dreamliner, and especially in Business Class - what a disappointment.... why oh why do airlines let you spend a significant 4 figure sum extra to be in "Business" class and then allow babies and toddlers in "Business" who spend most of the 13 hours in the air screaming and crying? Absolutely dreadful flight. In addition, the lie flat seat was the worst i've been on since Delta near-recliners nearly 20 years ago - the seat frame between the seat cushion and the back-rest was not cushioned enough and was positioned right in the small of the back and the space for legs/feet was so cramped it made it impossible to lie in any position other than on your back. Almost impossible to sleep especially given the constant crying of toddlers and babies. Cabin Crew spent all the time not serving ensconced in their galley and there was a constant stream of people from the back of the plane using the toilets at the front, with no attempt by the cabin crew to stop this. Will not be travelling on Vietnam Airlines again even though our Premium Economy flight out to Hanoi was actually not bad.
Superb premium economy aisle seat. Footrest, great legroom, seat recline and a very big tv screen in the armrest. Food was however average. Thanks to VN Airlines for the seat upgrade.
As always on 787s, extremely narrow seats in Y. Plane was engineered for 8-across, and nearly all airlines have squeezed 9-across. This is a disgrace. Narrow aisles with constant bumping of F/As, cramped accommodations. Too bad, because VN, as most Asian airlines, are trying hard to have good service, even in Y.

3A.Seat is a reasonable size with a variety of settings. There is a useful shelf which will hold a book, phone and drink, between you and the window. Tray table pivots out and folds open, but doesn't slide back n forth - but you can slide your chair forward so you don't drop food in your lap, but I'm not sure it would be a particularly comfortable position to work in for too long. Although it's a window seat and you are facing away from the aisle a little it doesn't seem particularly private, it would be better if the right arm rest (which feels a long way away) rose up higher to create a bit of a screen, as you're quite aware of people walking by. I wouldn't opt for the front row in the middle on night flights, as there is a large screen on the wall which shows the flight map for the whole journey. Overhead light and side light, the latter with two brightness settings. USB charger. If you prefer to use your own headphones then you'll need the adaptor for the small three-pin socket. There's a small storage bin between seat and arm rest but it's an odd shape so you can't get much in there. Room for shoes and a small bag under footrest. There's a cubby hole where you can find your headphones and toiletry bag, big enough for a bottle of water, phone etc. TV screen is a decent size, with touch screen and also a separate handheld control. It folds out of the seat-back in front, you can't tilt it up/down. Film selection, in terms of new films, isn't particularly good (obviously includes a number of Vietnamese films). You will be aware of people going in/out of the toilet, at the front of the cabin on the right, once the lights are dimmed, because of the light inside - so maybe a couple rows further back, or a seat on the right hand side, would be better. Service is with a smile but I had trouble with more than one staff member understanding what I was asking for, particularly when being offered the fruit and then cheese n biscuits from a tray - resorted to pointing in the end. I had to remind them about my pre dinner drink, despite them writing it down. And there was no sign of any tea or coffee after dinner, seemingly no one was offered it. No nuts/snacks offered with the drinks; I had to go to the galley to ask.
All good. Power wasn't working to seats, and crew clueless on how to make them work. But otherwise excellent.
