Both flights Shanghai-Sanya and Sanya-Shanghai were onboard a 787 aircraft, the new addition to Juneyao fleet. The model and the new aircraft made the over 2h40 trips more comfortable. The constraints of the covid-19 pandemic made regular services and offerings unavailable but the crew were polite and smiling. Service was overall professional except at the check-in count at Shanghai Hongqiao Airport where the staff were confused about foreign nationals not having a national health code that can be only registered with a PRC ID card while security control knew to check on other apps validated by the People's National Congress.
My friend and I booked this flight through Trip.com, which has a max limit on how many letters are allowed in your name when booking through the website or app. We contacted juneyao airlines via email since that was the only way possible, to ask them what we had to do to make sure we were definitely going to be allowed to check in to the flights given that our names were written incompletely, as we both have long given and middle names. This brilliant customer service representative responded to my email by saying that we might not be able to get on the flight, as it will be subject to whoever is checking us in at the airport and what they decide to do. I raised hell Karen-style and responded very nastily, and finally got a response from someone competent who decided to do their job by telling us that they'd resolve the issue for us and that we would have no problem getting on the flight. It got resolved but not as it should have the first go around. This, obviously, was an issue.
I love the B787 Dreamliner. The legroom is amazing for economy class. Very sensible television and great service.
Shanghai to Bangkok. I called their customer service a week before embarking on my journey with Juneyao to verify how much it will cost for an excess luggage. Since I never wanted any form of frustration at the airport I called them again asking the same questions after two days which they said same. Now on the said date instead of the 32kg excess which was supposed to be 1000rmb was now 4000rmb. I had to drag issues with them until they pulled out the recordings from the previous calls made. They later agreed that I pay the 2000rmb and assured me that I was gonna receive my luggage at my destination. After a successful flight from Shanghai to Bangkok Airport, i was by Egyptair to pay $400 for my excess luggage which has been paid already or else they were going to offload my luggage. I was really worried and had no other option since I was a student returning home and had no money on me. Now my luggage have been removed and kept in Thailand until I make the payment before it will be brought down to me. I see this as a cheat from the airline. I got home with no clothes to wear and ever since I’ve been wearing the same clothe I wore on my journey home.
The flight leaves at 15:30 and gets to Shanghai at 6:30am. The boarding was fairly standard, nothing specific. The airline ticketing system is not integrated with OneWorld so AY was not able to issue onward tickets. This in turn made it complicated to go through security (try it without boarding passes) in Helsinki, but we made it - kudos to the border police at HEL. Nonetheless, the airline was quick to issue tickets at the gate which was appreciated. Online check-in was not available, which is always a hassle - we apparently got the last available three seats together. The flight was uneventful. You will be served twice during the flight - a small dinner two hours into the flight and a sandwich 1.5h before arrival. Both meals were small, but the flight crew was happy to give me an extra meal later (very rare). The windows could be electronically dimmed and the entertainment system was bright, clear and responsive. Negatives: OES did hang up a few times, it turned on the display whenever there was an announcement and the selection of movies/TV was limited. Legroom was ok and the staff was courteous. I'm tall (6'4) and to be comfy I tend to keep my knee in the aisle, so I almost always get it banged up by the food tray. The staff took extra care with me, which I very much appreciated. All in all, some more meals, better OES selection and integration with other airlines would really improve them a lot. Still, they were the cheapest available and they got me there on time, so not too bad.
To qualify for visa exemptions in China, we had to leave the country and return. We opted to take a quick flight from Shanghai to Hong Kong on Lunar New Year, which meets the Chinese government's criteria for this type of visa exemption. I selected JuneYao Air based almost entirely on the price, which was well below what I would expect a similar flight to cost at home in the United States. For that price, our flight proved to be an incredible value. Despite being a very short trip, we received complementary snack boxes. The seats were very comfortable and the flight crew, who spoke English very well, were friendly and helpful. I did not have any experience with their customer service department or any problems with my flight. I also did not utilize them for a true international flight, so I cannot speak to that experience. For local flights within China (or to autonomous Chinese regions), I would absolutely fly JuneYao air again.
Have used the airline a couple of times and have been good and ok. The timing of the flight if perfect for families with kids. The plane and the seat with good foot space are very good. However, the food on board and the entertainment options need improvement. For young children, there are four books on the screen that takes 5 min to read. So need to get my own books and toys to keep baby entertained. More options for younger children is welcome. The staff is very friendly and flexible. The food needs a significant update because a couple of times before I have brought my own food onboard as back up option. Both times have been happy that I did.
When I had to cancel my flight I applied for a refund however, they would always put me on hold. One time the operator hung up on me even though I could hear him talking to someone else on the line. This is by far the worst service I have received in all my years of traveling.
I did not expect that but I find this airliner perfect for me. From floor to roof and from stepping to plane till leaving it everything work at least good. Service was very neat and for dinner there were western and Chinese option. Staff kept plane clean all the time and none of them had any bad manners. First time on flight I could actully hear all announcements from the captain and from the cabin crew. Also entertainment system works was and has high quality screen and dozens of new Chinese movies (with English subtitles) and some western as well. Some problems are that when flight attendant ask what food do you want, he just asked: rice or noodle... well it was macaroni box not noodle! I asked him to change for Chinese option: rice with fish with my weak Chinese and it worked (some flight attendants speak good English but not all). Also at the airport some staff only know how to behave with Chinese people with Chinese language, when they need to speak English with foreigner they seem confused and rude, but it was only couple people.
We booked this route Pudong to Phuket rather last minute and were nervous about transferring in Pudong and flying an airline we had never heard of. The transition was easy. The counter service was efficient and good. There were no delays in either direction. In fact we landed early both times. There is a good luggage allowance and a snack or meal was served each way. The seating was on par with American domestic flights. While I hated flying in the middle of the night, it was the only way to make the trip work so we did it and it went fine. The pilots in both directions were Western. The flight crew did not have a lot of English but enough to get by. Pillows and blankets for all passengers.
Juneyao to my rescue after being let down by SCAir. If not for Juneyao I would have wasted 24 unproductive hours in Changsa. Totally disappointed with Southern China for their last minute cancellation.
The check in at the airport was fast and professional. In the plane was the legroom small and the food poor, the bun was old and hart.
Good domestic flight from Shenzhen to Shanghai, lucky to not experience any delay. Generally good service.
We booked with Juneyao Air for our trip from Guilin-Shanghai. I booked for a Business Class Window Seat. The Business class lounge at Guilin Airport is a very comfortable medium size lounge with refreshments such as water, milk, tea and nice variety of biscuits. The Large purple colour business class window seat was comfortable and we were provided with blanket and cushion. The Cushioned slippers offered were very comfy. Dinner meal was served with two choices, Chicken or beef with a side of rice. The bowl of fruits was very cool and the slices tasted sweet. I had Waxberry juice (chines strawberry) as my drink. SEE photos.
To make it clear, I was not able to take the flight due to the lack of a boarding pass and my time of arrival at the airport. I understand that things were already setting me up for failure when it came to taking this flight, but I must share my experience so that others are aware of the culture that this airline has created among its team members. I ran out of my hotel to see if I could take an early morning flight so that I would not miss my friend's wedding in Taiwan. As previously mentioned, I knew all these things were standing against me already, but I still had some hope inside of me. As I arrived, I realized that this was not going to happen, especially with the way that the receptionist treated me as soon as she saw me, and I shared a little of my story with her. I had missed my flight the night before, which was the first time something like this had happened to me. I had a tough night, but I arrived at the airline with hopes that if I arrived at 8:10 am, I could run through everything to make it to the boarding 8:40 time and make it before the 8:55 departure. I jumped out of bed that morning, but the way this young woman treated me was beyond anything I have ever experienced. She talked to me as if I was an idiot and pointed at the flight ticket sales area, and without fully listening or speaking to her manager before sending me away, told me that it was impossible and to "go, go, go buy new ticket !!!" I respect the people and culture, and as a student, I am aware of the culture difference, but the way she looked at me and the face she gave me is something that I need to describe. She looked full of intolerance and arrogance. As I started crying with frustration, tiredness, and confusion, I asked her if I could speak to her manager because the time that I was there arguing with her could be enough time to help me find a solution and maybe make it into that flight. With an arrogant look and smirk on her face, she said: "Yeah, wait." At that point, I understood what I was going through. I realized that this young woman did not care, and no matter what I said or did, she will not do anything to help me. I gave up on the idea of miraculously making it into this flight and waited there for almost 25-30 minutes until her supervisor came to talk to me. I must share that this same supervisor was right next to her having a morning huddle with his team, while he was listening to her and I talk (me crying), so I told him that no matter what had happened, that I was going to let it go and just find a solution for my issue but that it was a shame that he could have stopped what he was doing and could have gotten involved in my situation. Especially because I was the only customer there at that moment. He apologized so many times and tried to do something, but it was too late.
This is a difficult flight to book, especially in English. No access online and difficult to check in on line. Only problem, it’s the only airline that services this route. Once on board, staff were friendly and helpful, although I thought the food was very average
Whilst not an airline that will win awards, the Juneyao experience was more than satisfactory on my two hour flight from Shanghai (PVG) to Hong Kong (HKG). The airport experience was efficient (with the exception of immigration - but that was out of the airline’s hands). Check-in was quick and the service friendly. Boarding began 45 minutes before departure. That process too was fast but there was no organisation to it. There was just an announcement and then the usual surge of people. On board, the crew were fit for purpose. Their English wasn’t brilliant along with their interpersonal skills. There were zero interactions with customers outside of asking a customer what they were eating or drinking. They were rather a surly bunch too - all quite stern looking! The flight departed early and reach Hong Kong some 30 minutes early. So absolutely no complaints about their time-keeping. A hot meal was served on board, with a choice of chicken and rice or beef noodles. In both cases, the quantity of meat was seriously lacking, but the food itself was pleasant. It was served alongside a box containing bread, peanuts, crackers, apple juice and some cutlery. Drinks were complimentary too, although limited to water, tea and coffee. The aircraft wasn’t spotlessly clean. In fact, on boarding, they was an unpleasant aroma of everything. But once the ovens kicked in, it disappeared. The seatbelt too showed some suspicious stains so I used the provided pillow to avoid coming into contact with it. I should point out as well that I found the seat terribly uncomfortable. It was very firm. Baggage delivery in Hong Kong was efficient. All in all, an acceptable flight, priced at £57.00 one way.
We had a pleasant flight, even we read about a lot of difficulties according to this airlines. It was much better, then we expected. The stuff was nice and helpful, check-in was easy and the flight arrived on time. The only problem was that when I tried to reach the call center for some informationt, I couldn't because it said that they have english assistant only between 8 AM and 8 PM, that was quite disapponting as the website of the airlines says they are vailable 24*7!
Juneyao Airlines is a relatively new airline who are part of the Star Alliance group. (Yes, I had to google them before I booked flights to see if they existed- they do!!) We paid $300USD for a flight from Osaka to Helsinki, which included a 4 hour transit in Shanghai from 9pm-1am. The transit was VERY unorganised and nobody knew what was going on despite the fact that the staff had signs with our names on?! I’m still rating it 5* as I was very impressed with their inflight entertainment and food service considering it is a budget airline.
Shanghai Hongqiao to Urumqi. I was very impressed by this flight experience! The airline and its staff take every measure to make one feel comfortable and welcome, especially through the use of (sometimes for European tastes a little over the top) friendly terminology in its announcements. Never have I ever been wished a "wonderful, magical day ahead" and thanked for "the magical journey we have shared together" - like I said, a little over the top but it did make me feel great. Another first was that the cabin crew went around selling used books for travelers to buy reading material at a cheap price. That culture really spoke to me. The friendly lady even went out of her way rummaging through the box to find an English book to offer me. All combined with lots of genuine smiles. Even the food was delicious. A dedicated security officer made regular patrols through the cabin (although that may be a new requirement on Xinjiang flights) and even he bore a smile and a kind word for everyone. The airplane we flew on was brand new and meticulously clean, in addition, the flight was punctual to the dot. Check-in at SHA had been very uncomplicated and quick, the airline's bag drop counter area was very nicely decorated. All these are highly unusual things for an airline to emphasize on but that is exactly why I would fly Juneyao again in a heartbeat! I felt very well taken care of and for the first time in years, truly enjoyed a flight.
