EVA reconfigured the seating and changed out their seats. I am not a big gal by any means and I felt as if my seat is as flat an old sofa. It starts to become really uncomfortable only a few hours into the flight. There is a electrical/technical box(?) under the seat which limits the size of the bag you can stow under the seat in front of you. If you want an aisle seat AND more under seat storage - opt for an aisle seat next to the window seat. The changeover includes the foot rest. Instead of a cushion lifting up from your seat, the foot rest is now attached to the seat ahead of you and it is in one position. If you're short (5ft) that foot rest will be an uncomfortable reach. Overall Premium Economy may be more comfortable than Economy (as you're rubbing shoulders with the stranger next to you) but not much more.
We flew from Singapore to Taipei in 3-3-3 configuration and the seats were as comfortable as you might expect, not great but okay. From Taipei to Seattle it was 3-4-3 configuration. The SEA to Taipei flight was the same 3-4-3 configuration and the seat comfort was awful. This 17" should not be legal. Every time the beverage cart went by, it hit my wife's legs. The seats were intolerably cramped. I agree, I will not ever fly in this configuration again.
DO not fly this route in Economy. 3-4-3 seating is terrible. Avoid any airline doing this in their 777. I'll gladly pay more to go on a different airline that actually has a humane setting.
For the love of God, how is the 3-4-3 width even legal? I'm a size medium skinny guy and my shoulders are 18.5" wide. Placing me at 17" seat width in between two other adults for 14 hours is TORTURE! Shame on you, EVA.
EVA air - you should be ashamed on yourself for configuring some of your 777-300s in 3-4-3 with 17" seats. It is SO uncomfortable. You rub your seatmate all night. The flight attendants hit you all night. Before I fly with you again (and I LOVE your service), I will make sure it is not this airplane. I will pay $100 more to go on a different airline that is not your 777-300 V4!
The 3-4-3 configuration appears to be standard in both directions TPE-SFO, and it is absolutely inhumane for seats to be that narrow. Legroom is adequate, but seat width does not meet minimum standards. Further, flight attendants deem it appropriate to pass between the service cart and the aisle seat, constantly bumping passengers. I'll definitely be booking with other airlines on this route in the future. My advice would be for EVA to run the 9 abreast configuration for the longer haul flights and use this abomination for the routes like TPE-SIN. For now, they are doing the opposite.
EVA Air offers good food, wonderful service and typically comfortable economy seats. But this particular 777 version had 10 seats across! Extremely uncomfortable from TPE to SFO. I believe the newer versions only have 9 seats across big difference! LAX to TPE had only 9 across much more comfortable. Retire the older version EVA Air! Next time we will fly premium economy
I flew from TPE to SIN on royal laurel on 21st December 2015. This aircraft was a brand-new and I sat on 9A. Row 9 was a best seat
Strange, when booking the ticket the EVA air website said I was booked on a 77W aircraft (which is supposed to be 9 abreast economy), but the plane I was on was 10 abreast economy. Having flown EVA both prior and after they converted their economy to 10 abreast, I can say that adding another seat reduces seat width noticeably. It's really narrow, and you will most likely be rubbing shoulders with the passenger next to you. I know increasing from 9 abreast to 10 abreast economy is the trend amongst airlines now, but for a 5-star rated airline such as EVA, this is extremely disappointing. They also reduced seat pitch from their previous layout as well.
I don't recall I'd been in such a narrow seat before. Putting 10 seats abreast is insane. After flying both way between SFO and TPE, I am afraid I will be looking other airlines.
Extremely narrow seats, 17" from the edge of the cushion to the next. Couldn't help but rub shoulders with the person next to me. Despite the IFE being good, being in such a narrow seat for 11 hours is a horrible experience, and I'd say it was the least comfortable flight I've been on ever. Service and food was on par with EVA's other aircraft and other Asian airlines.
