Worst airlines ever, I had to share my experience here. I do understand due to Covid19, most airlines had to rescheule different routes. But my experience was unexpected and not reasonable. I had originally booked my fiancé a ticket from Yellowknife to arrive in London, ON and then from London, ON to Yellowknife under my membership account and Westjet changed the tickets without even any consideration. So they changed her reservation to leave a day before she was expected to leave Yellowknife and gave her a stop in Calgary for 3 days ( which was originally for 2 hours only, when i booked). They expect her to stay in Calgary for 3 days without any reason. I called them and asked her for a reason, and first time the girl hung up the phone saying she can't find her itinerary. Called second time, after 1 hour someone answered and she told me that she can't do anything about the ticket as that is what is available. There was another flight from Yellowknife to Toronto the same day, but she said she can't book her on that flight, as there is a fare difference. This was the same flight they changed to leave yellowknife to calgary and then calgary it was suppose to leave same day to Toronto. But she said coz her final destination is different, she wont be able to give her a change of destination. Which is ridiculous as this was not our fault, and does west jet want her to stay in calgary for 3 days ? When originally booking, the flights rates to Toronto and London, ON were the same, and as its Westjet's fault, they should have given us the choice to change the destination, rather then putting her in Calagry for 3 days. It didn't made sense to me at all, that they changed her flight a day earlier and same flight was going to Toronto same day, why can't they put her on the same flight when it was available. Then on her return flight as well, they changed it to a further date, again a few days stop in Calgary ( and this was not even mentioned to us, when i asked Westjet agent to check on return flight, she mentioned this). Instead of taking responsibility and making it right for passenger, the airlines had made it worse for us. Moreover, they said they can't refund in original form of payment and can only give us travel credits, and now will have to pay another tickets from our pocket, if we decide to book with another airlines. We had booked this tickets in advance, and now any other tickets available are way overpriced, just cause we had trusted Westjet in it and now we have to suffer, as they are not willing to help at all. I have been flying with Westjet for a long time, and now re-considering my choices.
Took my money quick enough then cancelled my flight no rebook and no call back actually I need book days out to get customer sevice person which doesnt exist my the sound of it. Will contact DOT lay a complaint Corrupt company. Fly another airline!
Honestly the last trip we had was the worst customer service and experience ever. No notice at all that on board services were changed. Having no food to offer on a 5 hour flight with a 3 year old was aweful. The app update they did would not work on any of our devices. To find out that "premium" was allowed to offer on board services when we were told we couldn't receive due to touch points. WTF. An item of mine of sentimental value was seized when I had flown with it before in checked baggage. Spoke to customer service and had zero help. All scripted responses and no support. On our flight back same experience but even better. We had the attendant Alex decide in front of us give the entire row loads of free food because they went to high school together. I have been in the tourism industry now 23 years and flown Westjet so many times being an ambassador for the company. After this I feel like will never fly again. By far the worst experience ever. In a covid time when we encourage Canadians to travel in our borders. You are certainly not promoting this.
horrible they cancelled my flight and gave me the option for another ridiculous time to go and i can't do that. wont refund me or even compensate anything very frustrating called 4 times almost 2 hour wait times to get no where they offer a credit i won't use because i can't just get up an fly anytime. absolutely disappointed i will never use this airline again nor do i recommend it
Our flight was late. Flight attendants were on a little "power trip" watching how many sips of water I took before covering my mouth and nose with a mask. Flight attendant said she "feels" our masks are not made from the correct material and gave us different masks to wear, warning we will each get a $5,000.00 fine if we do not comply. When I went to the washroom 3 flight attendants watched my every step and warned me the seatbelt light is on. The flying was quite smooth. The snacks consisted of a puny little cookie and a small bottle of water - no asking if one wants anything, just "plonked" in our laps. We fly A LOT - 2 to 3 times a week, and therefore know what good service looks like. This was not it. Not very many passengers on the flight, but 4 flight attendants, wow.
Due to Covid the first part of my trip was cancelled by a partner airline (Qantas). WestJet didn't notify me of this, ever, even though the partner airline had grounded all flights; it wasn't just my flight that was cancelled. When I spoke to WestJet customer service they said they didn't know their partner carrier had been grounded, a week after it happened! A week after the first leg was cancelled, WestJet emailed me to say that "there's been an change in your itinerary." I logged in to find that they had cancelled the second and third legs of my flight (LA to Vancouver, Vancouver to Washington), but clearly didn't call it a cancellation. When I called them they said the first leg from Sydney to LA was still flying, but they couldn't get me to Seattle and there would be no reduction in my fare even though they were cancelling half my flight. After calling Qantas and learning their flights had been grounded, I called back WestJet and they flat refused to issue me a refund for my now-cancelled flight! I read them the clause in THEIR OWN CONTRACT that said if they cancel the flight "the only compensation owed is a refund of the ticket price back to the original form of payment." I said "so you're refusing to honor our contract, the one that you created" and the agent said "yes." She reiterated that there was no way I would receive a refund and my only option was to accept a travel voucher for WestJet. She made it clear that complaining to the USDOT would not help me and they were not bound by the laws of the US (except they actually are when the flight enters or exits the US). But that wasn't going to be the end of it. I filed a complaint with the United States Department of Transportation (you can do it via their website on airline customer service), because what WestJet was doing is illegal. After two months I finally received an email saying they "had reviewed my case" and determined I was eligible for a refund!
I booked my flight through FlightHub. I went to check in 24 hours in advance and it said there was no flight information. I went on every website I could find and could not find my flight. Turns out WestJet cancelled all direct flights to my destination however even 24 hours beforehand FlightHub said I was good to go and was booked ready to fly, I even looked back at all my emails and there was no heads up the flight was cancelled. Called WestJet Directly and they took control of my ticket and saved my trip redirecting me through another city. Bravo to Audrey at WestJet. You are a life saver and deserve a standing ovation, a big raise and an even bigger hug. Thank you thank you thank you. Booking Direct through WestJet from now on, worth the (sometimes) extra for less the hassle.
Had an awful experience speaking with Lynn from WestJet Vacations today. She abruptly hung up on me within 2 minutes of our call, and was completely unwilling to listen to what my issue was. A far cry from the customer first airline they once were, Westjet is failing to step up for the people it serves during the tough times of the pandemic, showing that companies like them only work to build long lasting relationships with travelers when times are good and it is easy to do so. I was a long time customer of Westjet before this, flying frequently for business and exclusively using WestJet. I don't see how I am ever going to be a customer again after this.
Like all the reviews say, they are scammers and liars! They proved it during the pandemic when they ripped off all their customer by forcing them to pay extra. They are nothing more than money grabbers and greedy. When Westjet cancelled my flight which I booked six months in advance and got a sale on, I was re-booked on a new flight and was forced to pay an outrageous difference for the new flight which by the way was also a crappy flight. The only flights they offered had many layovers and overnight stays so I was also forced to pay out of pocket for a hotel. Westjet, A good company who cares for their customers would not charge the difference or at least offer a travel credit for future travel. You make me sick how you treat your customers. DISGUSTING! I used to ALWAYS fly with Westjet as I once thought highly of them...NO MORE! They are the WORST airline ever and they just lost another loyal customer. I will be flying with Air Canada from now on. Goodbye Westjet!!
My flight was cancelled back in March and they only gave me a 50% refund telling me the other half would follow sometime in the near future. Well it’s August and nothing yet. Spoke several times to reps with no answer given why they stole my money. They broke the contract and still they refuse to give me back the money they owe me. I don’t know how they get away with it. The government needs to step in soon and order them to refund money to everyone they stole from. Talking to my lawyer next week finally. Hopefully can get a resolve soon. Brent Perry
The airline is using the old bait and switch tactic on travelers. You book what appears to be a great flight and the airline writes you saying that they had to cancel your flights for operational reasons. They then offer you nonsensical changes in lieu and if you wish to alter the changes, well the prices have conveniently gone up. Should you decide to not accept the changes, they will not refund you but they put the money in a travel bank. I bank with RBC not West Jet. Very disappointed in West Jet and I just came to find out that they were bought out last year by Onyx and that explains the downhill slide for West Jet. I will never fly them again!!!!
My family and I booked a flight with swoosh and everything was fine until we got to the airport. The receptionist wasn’t even there which caused us to become late and after the receptionist came back she told us that we missed the flight even though we had time left. The plane ended up leaving with ONLY 2 PEOPLE IN BOARD, everyone else was behind us trying to get on board but they had the same problem. And instead of giving us a refund or another flight, they told us to leave and took our money. WE PAYED 2K. I was furious and now all the hotels I booked went to waste and the trip is ruined. Trying to contact the company but they aren’t responding. Garbage!!! DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM!
WestJet cancelled our flights for August 4th 20202. WestJet never sent a cancellation email or informed us of the cancellation. Once we contacted the airline to check on our flight status, they said the flights are cancelled. The airline put our money in THEIR travel bank system, although we DID NOT agree to it. The airline says is will notify us at a later time, if we are eligible for a refund to original form of payment. Like many other customers I called many time, and used the email chat....ALL to get automated and computer generated answers! WestJet DOES NOT send cancellation emails, because they know you need the email for an insurance claim. On a side note: My other trips this summer with American Airlines and Aer Lingus have also been cancelled, NO ISSUES...I received a refund without even having to ask. DO NOT EVER book with WestJet, worst customer service and believe it or not the agent (in my case Flor) hang up on you if they don't want to deal with you.
Booked a direct flight for my mom from Austin TX to Calgary Canada in June. Received email from West Jet after 5 days that the flight is cancelled, offering connected flight or travel back reward. 1. Tried calling CUSTOMER SERVICE was on phone for more than 2 HOURS but NO RESPONSE, so finally I hung up my phone. Tried calling CUSTOMER SERVICE 2 more times same result (They were very consistent in duplicating the long wait time to hit a goal where customer gets frustrated and can hang up the call). 2. Tried a chatting system Month later on 29th July, Marco from West Jet responded it felt like I was chatting with robot not even a real person (Slow in response, no emotions, 2 to 3 minute lag in getting response back) END OF THE STORY NO MONEY REFUND, BUT GAVE ME A TRAVEL REWARD OR TRAVEL BANK TO USE THE SAME AMOUNT TO BUY TICKETS AND IS GOOD FOR 24 MONTHS. i WOULD NOT RECOMMEND WEST JET BECAUSE THEY DO NOT PROVIDE REFUND EVEN THE FLIGHT IS CANCELLED.
Worst airline amongst 10s of airlines i have flown with. Last year they sent me an email just couple days before my travel saying that ur flight has been changed and it will be delayed 24 hours . Mayb fair warning. I will let u b the judge I booked my flights about 5 weeks in advance. I supposed to fly from saskatoon to toronto tronto to lonon then i had a plan to stay 1 day in London and take a flight to Copenhagen next day. They said due to plane restrictions we changed ur flight u cant make it to toronto to catch ur fliht to London whcih will be a 24 hour delay meaning i had to cancell my plans for london and i was in my own for the next flight which i had to take from another airport in London. They didnt care if i have to pay for my extra 18 hour stay in Toronto or pay extra for my flight in London Worst airline ever
March 2018 I vowed never to fly with WestJet due to their terrible customer service and leaving passengers stranded in the middle of the night, resulting in missed connections. Fast forward a year and a half and I broke my promise because they were the only airline offering direct flights to and from Halifax - Vancouver. Several weeks after booking I was informed that my flights have been switched to go through Toronto. I didn't accept the changes. After 3 hours on hold I finally spoke with an agent who told me the have removed all direct flights and I will have to go through Toronto/Montreal/Calgary. All bad options. I decided to cancel my trip and the customer services rep refused to offer me a refund. Travel credit only. I spoke with her manager after and he said the same thing. When a company retracts a service without offering a reasonable replacement, it is time to offer the customer a refund. Very poor customer service.
Their flight was reasonably priced with no change fee, so I booked it. They cancelled all but one (of six) legs, now their prices are double on much later dates since there are no more early August dates (except through Mexico Cty!). I will have to use another airline buying yet another ticket. I will only get a 24 month credit effectively extorting me to fly with them (my partner has lost flights this way since she was unable to use the creidt in time due to work). In my 40 years of crossing the Atlantic, I have never used Westjet, now I can see why. DO NOT FLY WESTJET.
Flight was cancelled because of Covid. Not anyone’s fault of course but we’re only offered travel vouchers. Because of our family situation this didn’t work for us and requested a refund. We have finally been offered a refund less $210. Last time we ever do business with WestJet again. We had another flight was with Delta which was cancelled and they happily refunded us our money.
Preferred Seats do not have any extra legroom. They are simply the first two rows of economy. I could have booked the third row for no fee (econoplus). What a rip off. When I talked to staff on board they couldn't even tell me what preferred meant. And didn't get the differnce between economy and economy plus. To be honest if the guy they got to talk to me wasn't such a jerk and anyone could have explained it I wouldn't be writing this. Very disappointed in WestJet.
