The Dreamliner definitely represents a major step forward for passenger comfort. The lighting in particular is impressive; reducing glare and, by extension, stress. The window light modification functionality is amazing. Overall comfortable experience, or rather as comfortable as it ever can be on a 10 hour flight when you're travelling down the back! The service was ok - China Airlines crews are conscientious and polite, if rather challenged by their rapport with the English language at times. Food is basic. They need to stop serving pre-sweetened coffee - many people do not use sugar and don't like someone deciding that in fact they do! Flight overall was fine.
My first time in lie-flat business class. Seat is very comfortable but a bit difficult to get out of when fully reclined. Not bad on the back where the joint b/t back and seat meet. More private than the seats on the aisle (versus against the window). Entertainment choices pretty dismal. Food good, especially the 'chef specialties' you can pre-order out of CAN. Even on a red-eye service was great.
I did not recline my chair as the passenger behind kept pushing my chair forward. The air crew were attentive, and the craft itself was clean throughout: especially in the toilets
Arrived to airport and check in was easy and fast. Up to Strata Lounge, nicely laid out and quiet. Had a good breakfast, then onto boarding. This went well and greeted by hostesses, into seat. Everything looked clean and good. So settled myself in and familiarised myself with seat etc. Not too hard for Media system but I will say lack of w=quantity and quality of films and tv shows, but adequate. Could see screen well, and plane route following was easy. I had preempted lack of media stuff and took my iPad filled up :) Seat was comfortable and enough room to lie down easily (1.76cm) so was happy. The facility of blacking out windows with a button was good to. The only thing that really put the cat amounts the pigeons was the food was not really up to standard, I expected a tad better from Auckland suppliers. Oh well part of the problem was the hostesses obviously lacked in preparation skills- my first course - Mushrooms in a croissant and eggs with a grilled tomato ...... well that was a bit of a mission. Egg an upside down cup was cold, mushrooms and sauce nice but nearly needed a dental repair with pastry ....... good for foundation work :) boy was it like a rock, couldn’t even cut it with a knife!!! Food overall was sad and really China Southern needs to train there staff on how to prepare and heat food. Also we got a heated towelette 4 times on the flight ONLY 1st time was hot rest were cold ........ hmmmmm! Overall service was reasonable but food was really bad.
I wanted to sit by the aisle so I was happy. The seat had plenty of legroom for my long legs. The entertainment was okay. There were some good movies and some puzzles I liked doing. I enjoyed watching the progress of the plane on the flight path screen. The service was good although it was often hard to understand the air hostesses and I'm not sure they understood English all that well. The in-flight announcement system was loud enough and spoken in both Mandarin and English but I found the English sentences quite hard to understand.
