I can confirm, this aisle seat has more space than ordinary Economy Plus seats due to being in an exit row. It does recline a good amount; not sure if it's a "full" amount. Although it's a bit chilly (use a light coat or blankets!), I would choose it (or 21B) again. The adjacent seats (22 D, E, F) do have a silly-huge amount of legroom, and while I did not observe it, I can see how people would try to pass through the space.
Flew this plane MUC-IAH. for 11 1/2 hours, not too bad. Did use pillow for extra cushion part of the way. Noticed the seat pad kept sliding, wouldn't hold in to place. For this flight, it appears this is the last working row on this side of the aircraft. The last couple rows (with extra legroom) were reserved for crew rest. About 2 hours in to the flight they turned the rows behind us in to an enclosed sleeping area with curtains that are stored on board. Definitely made it quiet in this part of the plane. The A seat is for aviation buffs; 2 windows! Seat back entertainment worked flawlessly.
I always travel to Chicago with United at least twice a year. The economy seats have finally been upgraded and contain a lot of leg space. They have also updated the TV's and personally I wouldn't even upgrade to Premium Economy, the legroom in Economy is now sufficient. I am 6ft tall, economy works well.
The center Polaris suites in rows 3, 5, 7, 9 are by far the best Polaris suites in the United Fleet. Just because of the way this one seat wide center section is designed, the work table is the largest and is located slightly forward of you, unlike many of the others on the 777s where the table is almost behind you. Other nice thing about this flight was the quality of the food coming out of the kitchens at Charles de Gaulle. Down side was extremely slow service by flight attendants, my meal was stone cold by the time they got it to me, no beverage refills during the primary meal and they served the meal before landing without anything to drink it down with. By the time I did get some water, that meal, too, was stone cold.
Seat about OK, but central partition in Y has been eliminated, relegating restrooms to back of the plane for all Y and Y+ passengers, leading to difficulties if food carts are anywhere in the aisle. Temperature maintained too low, resulting in need to wear jacket during flight. "Snack" before arrival inedible; pure junk food.
Polaris seats in the 767 are signifcatly smaller than 777 & 787. 10D was particularly small and uncomfortable.
My husband & I flew to Italy on the 970 on Aug 10, 2018. Seats 18A & B were directly behind the crew sleeping quarters. So there was a lot of room in these seats for long legs. There was no under seat storage here, so everything had to go in the overhead bins. The seats recline was ok, the food was mediocre, the headphone jack was strange and would not accept my headphones I had brought. So the headphones they give you gave me an earache in the end. The map showing your progress was non-responsive after a while so the flight felt like it was taking forever. There was a nice selection of movies though. After about 7 hours, I wanted out of those seats. They were ok, until the 7th hour of the 9-hour flight and then I got aches and cramped. If you are a heavier person, bring your own seatbelt extender because these seats were made for us! Overall ,I would say that these seats are a solid 8.5/10
I attempted to fly to Paris last evening on United 987. After a pleasant stay in the Polaris Lounge I boarded the plane. I am 6'1" and I was immediately struck by how small the seat was. reclined the seat to flat and could not lay flat because of the small angled foot compartment. After trying to find a comfortable spot I decided that I did not want to sit up all night and I left the plane. The staff was very courteous and told me that they constantly get complaints about the seats.
Was fortunate to get the new Polaris Business Seat on my CDG-ORD 767-300 flight due to random routing luck. I was in seat 10A (wife was in 10D). I agree with the previous comments about how great/good/ok these coffin-like seats are. I only fly international business class every 5-6 years so I cant speak to the sudden desire for every business passenger to be completely isolated from every other human being on the plane, but these seats are VERY private (especially the window seats). Go check out Zach Honigs great overview of this plane at The Points Guy website for a very detailed review of everything but he is spot on when describing the good/bad of the plane. If you want to look out the window, the odd rows have 2 windows each while the even rows have almost no view out as the single window is behind you. However, the window seats appear to be quite challenging to squeeze in/out so if you are very large or have limited mobility, book an even row or the middle section. I didnt try sleeping during my daytime flight, so I cant vouch for the seats extended sleeping comfort. For eating and watching movies, I found it EXTREMELY comfortable and well cushioned with a ton of leg room and support in the nearly flat position. Im 6-3 about 225lbs and the seat was very nice. The TV screen was reasonably big with good-enough HD resolution and the movie selection was huge with a good mix of old and new films. However, the headphones were not high-end noise cancelling and even worse, they use a bizarre custom plug that prevented me from using my far-superior personal headphones with either adaptor I had for them. I thought the food and dessert were great (I had the short-ribs) and the experienced crew were all wonderful to us. Also, I wandered back to Economy to check it out and UA did a great job back there as well. Every seat is over 18 wide and most seemed to have more than adequate legroom. Id have no problem flying back there. Thank goodness the US accountants didnt figure out how to jam an extra seat in every row and wreck the planes comfort like they did on the 777-300. So to summarize Pros: Very comfortable seat, bedding and pillows are great, good food, Odd # window seats are very private, great selection of movies. Cons: Poor view out in even # rows, HD screen quality just OK. Mediocre headphones, coffin-like seats are a bit claustrophobic. Overall, really a great way to travel to Europe. Well Done UA
Still trying to decide if I like the new Polaris seats or not. The cabin looks great, storage is good and the seats are very private with a hair more length. On the downside, the cabin is very cramped and it is very difficult to pass in the aisles. The FAs struggle some with the service in such tight quarters. The seat is somewhat narrow and I end up banging my knees on the tray table (even when stowed). The access to the aisle is very narrow in the outboard seats. There is only one window at 7A and it is well forward. Shorter people will probably not be able to see out of it. If you are smaller and like privacy, this is probably a pretty good seat. if you want more space, do a code share on Lufthansa.
